Whose Whooo is Whose
Learn how to tell native species of owls from each other. You will meet with some of these wildlife ambassadors as the adaptation of owls is discussed. Parking is $5.
Saturday, February 18 and 25, 2012
10:30 AM to 11:15 AM
Family Discovery Pack Introduction
Meet at the Visitor’s Center to learn about the different items in the Discovery Pack like bug viewers, field guides and binoculars, and how to use them. Discovery Packs can be borrowed on a first come-first serve basis. $5 parking.
1PM to 2 PM
Close Encounters of the Bird Kind
Learn about and listen to the important message of the non-releasable raptors that call Amicalola Falls their home. Meet in the Lodge lobby. $5 parking.
3:30 PM to 4 PM
Goin’ Batty
Visit the Visitor’s Center to learn many fascinating things about bats. $5 parking.

10:30 AM to 11 AM
Seed Mosaics
Meet at the Visitor’s Center and join a ranger in making a mosaic using some magical seeds. $5 parking.
1 PM to 2 PM
Sssnakes Alive!
See and learn about many non-venomous snakes that are native to Georgia and how they are important in ways we don’t always recognize. Meet in the Lodge lobby. $5 parking.
3:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Map and Compass
Go over some orienteering basics at the Visitor’s Center. A compass will be provided to use for some outdoor activities. Make sure to dress warm. This is geared for children 7+. $5 parking.

October Events at Amicalola Falls

Lots of fun stuff is happening at Amicalola Falls State Park in October, 2011. It is the perfect time of year to spend some time outside enjoying the fall weather and the beautiful trees as they are changing colors.
Fall Changes – Ask a Naturalist
A park ranger will be in the Lodge lobby at 4 PM on October 14, 21, and 28, 2011 informally discussing changes happening this season in the North Georgia Mountains.
Fall Color Hike
Meet at the Park Visitor Center at 3:30 PM on October 15, 22, and 29, 2011 for a 1 hour, 1 mile round trip hike. Park rangers will be discussing why the leaves change color and other interesting changes we see this time of year.
Jr. Ranger Program
Learn more about Georgia’s Jr. Park Ranger program and work toward earning a Jr. Ranger badge at 10:30 AM at the Park Visitor Center on October 15, 22, and 29, 2011.
Sssnakes!
Meet in the Lodge lobby to find out some interesting things about the snakes native to Georgia and meet some non-venomous reptile ambassadors to the park at 1 PM on October 15, 22, 29, and 30, 2011.
Awesome ‘Possums
Learn some fascinating facts about possums in the Park Visitor Center at 10:30 AM on October 16, 23, and 30, 2011.

Autumn Magnets
Meet in the Park Visitor Center at 3:30 PM on October 16, 23, and 30, 2011 to create an Autumn magnet to make a memory of the beautiful fall leaves.

Listen to stories and get to know the park’s resident raptor ambassadors at the Park Visitor Center at 3:30 PM on October 19 and 26, 2011.

Solar System Stroll

Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawsonville, Georgia will be creating a true-scale model of the solar system on September 10, 2011 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Come by the park to join in the fun. Meet at the Park Visitor Center and bring comfortable shoes. Plan on walking approximately 1 mile on this venture.

Activities at Amicalola Falls

Learn about mammals, birds, and aquatic creek life at Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawsonville, Georgia.
Starting on August 20, 2011 at 10:30 AM, taking place at the visitors’ center, you can learn about mammals native to the area, check out some animal pelts and possibly meet a resident mammal ambassador. This program can be seen again on August 27, 2011 beginning at 10:30 AM.
On August 20, 2011 starting at 1 PM is a program taking place in the Lodge Lobby featuring non-releasable raptors who live at Amicalola Falls State Park. You can learn more about them and the important message they have to share. You can see this again on August 25 and 27 at 1 PM.
Don’t forget to bring your wading shoes and a towel and meet at the visitor’s center at 3:30 PM on August 20 for the Creek Wade. You can join a park naturalist who will be investigating aquatic life. This program happens again on August 24 at 1 PM and August 27 at 3:30 PM.

DogLeg Charity Golf Tournament

This charity golf tournament is for the dogs…and cats! Register to play in the 9th annual DogLeg Charity Golf Tournament at the Chestatee Golf Club in Dawsonville, Georgia on May 23, 2011. All proceeds will benefit the Dawson County Humane Society.
The tournament format is 4 member amateur teams and 4 man best scramble. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second teams, gross and net. Other contests will be taking place on tournament day such as: a 50/50 putting contest, hole in one, longest drive, and closest to the pin. The ladies’ maximum handicap is 30 and the men’s maximum handicap is 25.
The day will begin with registration and lunch provided by Chic-fil-A from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Tournament instructions will be given at 12:45 PM. Shotgun start at 1 PM. Dinner, awards, and raffles will start after the tournament.
